Empire State Development Corporation

SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research)
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is a federal government grant initiative that offers early-stage research and development funding to small companies. The Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program requires that grants be conducted in partnership with non-profit research institutions, with the institution performing 30 to 60 percent of the work. Additionally, while the grant application is submitted by the small business, the Principal Investigator can sometimes be from the research institution.

Accelerate Long Island - Hot Spot Program
Accelerate Long Island Hot Spot Program Application. Accelerate Long Island (ALI) was awarded $1.25 million in funding, over five years, from Empire State Development to manage the Long Island Innovation Hot Spot. ESD awarded the funding through round XII of New York State’s Economic Development Council Initiative.
Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
The Farmingdale Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is located on the campus of Farmingdale State College and provides free, one-on-one business advising. This free technical assistance is available to anyone who wants to start a business or who already owns a business. Services range from answering startup and business structure questions to assisting with business plans, cash flow projections, marketing plans, and loan information.
Long Island Capital Alliance
Since 1984, the Long Island Capital Alliance (LICA) has been fostering business growth on Long Island. LICA aims to create a productive and business-friendly environment that provides local businesses with the resources needed to thrive in today's markets. Serving as a hub for the exchange of ideas among new and established enterprises, successful entrepreneurs, investors, and service providers, LICA facilitates connections through monthly meetings, an annual luncheon, and the highly successful LI/NY Metro Capital Forum venture capital conference.
Long Island Angel Network
The Long Island Angel Network (LIAN) is composed of individual angel investors focused on funding privately held companies or ventures, usually in their early stages of development. Most investments are expected to range between $100,000 and $2 million. LIAN collaborates closely with the Long Island Life Sciences Initiative, the Long Island Software and Technology Network, and the Long Island Regional Incubator Council.
