Broadhollow Bioscience Park Pioneers Long Island’s Life Sciences Renaissance

In a significant boost for Long Island’s life sciences sector, Broadhollow Bioscience Park has emerged as a key player. After the departure of OSI Pharmaceuticals in 2009, the park faced challenges but has now turned a corner with Estee Lauder as its new anchor tenant. This summer also marked the arrival of Dan Polner, previously of Stony Brook University, as the park’s executive director.

Funding from the Long Island Investment Fund (LIF)

Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced substantial funding from the Long Island Investment Fund (LIIF), including $10 million for the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and $50 million for a life sciences competition for local startups. These investments promise to transform Long Island into a hub for biotechnology and life sciences.

Polner envisions creating a third facility on the remaining 18 acres of the bioscience park, providing up to 60,000 square feet of lab and office space. This development aims to foster partnerships across Long Island’s premier research institutions, including Brookhaven National Laboratory, Stony Brook University, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Hofstra University, and Northwell Health.

With money, focus, and coordination, Broadhollow Bioscience Park is poised to turn Long Island into a thriving life sciences corridor, driving innovation, creating jobs, and boosting the local economy.
